We know how important staying on track with your weight loss journey is — and how worrying it can be when the cost of your medication changes unexpectedly.
From 1 September 2025, Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, has significantly increased its wholesale price across the UK. This change applies to all healthcare providers, which means some patients may see their treatment costs rise. Understandably, this raises concerns about long-term affordability and uninterrupted access to a medication that’s been helping so many people achieve real results. At Weight Medics, we’re here to guide you through your options, keep your progress on track, and explore safe, effective alternatives — including Wegovy and for eligible patients, tablet therapy - Phentermine or Diethylpropion.
What’s changed?
Eli Lilly has raised the UK list price for Mounjaro. Pharmacies and clinics purchase stock via wholesalers, so when the list price moves, what patients pay often changes too. There’s no change to the medicine’s formulation or safety profile — only the price.
Why the increase?
According to public reporting and provider updates, the manufacturer is aligning UK pricing with other developed markets from 1 September 2025.
What this could mean for you
If you’re a private patient using Mounjaro, your monthly costs may rise depending on your provider’s pricing. Weight Medics is currently reviewing the proposed wholesaler tariffs and will notify patients of any resulting price changes in due course, before 1st September. If affordability, supply, or dose-titration is becoming difficult, our Weight Medics clinicians can support you to stay on track safely — whether that’s continuing on Mounjaro, switching to Wegovy, or considering tablet options like Phentermine or Diethylpropion where appropriate.
Clinically guided alternatives at Weight Medics
Wegovy (semaglutide)
Wegovy remains a proven option and is currently more cost-accessible for many UK patients following the Mounjaro price change. Higher-dose semaglutide (2.4 mg) reported average weight loss around ~21% in recent data, narrowing the gap with higher-dose tirzepatide. Always discuss individual suitability with a clinician.
Phentermine and Diethylpropion
As a specialist CQC registered weight loss centre, Weight Medics can also prescribe tablet therapies. For patients who are clinically appropriate, this may include phentermine or Diethylpropion (Schedule 3 controlled drug), or orlistat (POM). Tablets can be a useful alternative if you’re not suited to GLP-1 injections or if cost/supply is an issue. Suitability is determined after medical assessment.
How switching or starting works with Weight Medics
A sudden price increase can make you feel like your progress is at risk — but switching medications doesn’t have to mean starting again. At Weight Medics, we see it as a continuation of your journey, just with a different tool. Our role is to help you maintain your results, minimise disruption, and make sure the transition is both safe and effective.
Here’s how we support your switch:
- Full treatment review: Before making any change, our clinicians review your complete history with Mounjaro — including your current dose, how long you’ve been on it, any side effects, and your progress so far.
- Personalised dose matching: If you’ve had side effects such as nausea or digestive discomfort, we may recommend a slower Wegovy titration to help your body adjust. If you’ve tolerated Mounjaro well, we might opt for a higher starting dose to maintain momentum and avoid unnecessary plateaus.
- Clinician-led decision-making: All switching decisions are made by UK-registered doctors. We don’t follow a rigid “one-size-fits-all” protocol — we tailor your starting dose based on your needs and the best available clinical evidence.
- Smooth continuity: Wegovy is titrated every four weeks, similar to Mounjaro. We keep your schedule on track so your appetite control and weight loss efforts remain consistent.
- Options beyond injections: For patients who are medically suitable, we can also discuss non-GLP-1 options such as phentermine — particularly useful if cost or injection availability is an issue.
Switching with Weight Medics means more than swapping prescriptions. You’ll have:
- 25-minute medical assessment (video): A UK-registered clinician reviews your history, validates health details, and confirms suitability.
- Payment only after medical approval.
- Regular 4-week reviews to check progress, adjust your dose, and address any side effects.
- Direct access to your clinical team for questions or concerns between appointments.

FAQs
Will the NHS price change?
The list-price change relates to private supply; NHS pricing is governed separately. Public reporting indicates the NHS isn’t directly affected.
Is it safe to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy?
Switching can be done safely with clinical oversight. We select a starting dose based on your treatment history, side-effect profile, and time since last injection.
Could tablets be right for me?
Possibly. After assessment, some patients may be suitable for phentermine or other tablets. These medicines should only be used under medical supervision and as part of a comprehensive plan (nutrition, activity, behaviour support). Weight Medics.
