Mounjaro and Wegovy injections

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both injectable medications used to aid in weight loss. The primary difference between them lies in their mechanisms of action.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) acts on two incretin hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, making it a dual agonist, which may offer an edge in weight loss and blood glucose control for some patients.

Wegovy (semaglutide), on the other hand, primarily targets the GLP-1 receptor alone. Both medications are effective for improving blood sugar levels and facilitating weight loss.

In clinical studies Mounjaro has been found to be the more effective weight loss medication.

We understand that some patients may already have reached a BMI below 25 and would like to find a maintenance plan which will allow them to continue their journey. Anyone with a BMI of 22.5- 25 will be considered on a case to case bases and will need to provide their weight loss history during the consultation process. The final decision will be made by the prescriber. The lowest BMI Weight Medics will treat down to on a tapering or maintenance programme is 20.5. 

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) once a week. The exact dosing will be determined by your Weight Medics clinician based on your health needs and response to the medication. 

Weight loss injections are really easy to use, the medication comes in an auto-injection pen, similar to a diabetes pen. You’ll be given full directions of how and when to use it. Our team are here to support you through your injections and any troubleshooting help you might need.

Typical patients are on the injection plan for 6-12 months to allow time to titrate up through the doses to the maintenance dose. Its important to follow the dosing schedule as recommended by your clinician at Weight Medics.

Most, if not all medications come with a risk of side effects, but those you may experience whilst taking GLP1 are usually temporary and can be managed. The most common side effect is nausea, and some patients experience headaches, reflux, fatigue, or constipation. If your GLP-1 medication order has been delayed or the ice packs have melted, please don’t worry. 

All GLP-1 treatments, including Mounjaro and Wegovy, are shipped in insulated packaging with ice packs designed to keep your medication cool for up to 72 hours. These packs often melt during delivery, especially in warmer weather. This is expected and does not mean the medication has been compromised.

If your order is delivered within 72 hours of dispatch and placed in the fridge on arrival, it remains safe to use until the expiry date printed on the pen.

If your order arrives after 72 hours and contains Mounjaro, it is still safe to use for 30 days from the dispatch date as long as it has been kept below 30 °C. 

If your order arrives after 72 hours and contains Wegovy, it is still safe to use for up to 6 weeks from the dispatch date as long as it has been kept below 30 °C. 

If you’re unsure when your parcel was dispatched, Royal Mail or DPD tracking can show when the item was handed over to the courier. This usually marks the start of the 72-hour transit window.

If the pen has arrived more than 72 hours after dispatch and exposed to temperatures above 30°C, or if the liquid inside appears cloudy, frozen, or discoloured, please get in touch with our team. We may ask for a clear photo of the pen showing the liquid so we can assess the order for you.
